School libraries that stock strong collections of books and other materials, act as curriculum partners for regular teachers, and are staffed by certified educational media specialists can have a significant impact on improving student achievement in their schools, a report suggests.
The report—released last week by New York City-based Scholastic Inc., a publisher and distributor of children’s books and educational technology materials—pulls together research from experts on school libraries and student learning. It highlights the findings from studies on such libraries conducted in 14 states since 1999.
