Gov. Sonny Perdue of Georgia has challenged a task force to come up with a new way to pay for the state鈥檚 public school system.
Revamping the 2-decade-old said system, called the Quality Basic Education formula, 鈥渨ill be a lot like straightening up a garage that hasn鈥檛 been touched in 20 years,鈥 the Republican told the 23-member task force Aug. 26 at its first meeting.
The Education Finance Task Force, announced in February, includes teachers and school administrators, as well as business and elected officials.
Gov. Perdue told the panel that he wants a system that is simple and transparent, and that creates parity 鈥渟o that all children have access to an excellent education.鈥
