An online collection of papers and presentations gives some of the first detailed estimates of the financial costs that two states and two school districts claim they are shouldering to implement the federal No Child Left Behind Act.

The estimates were provided by officials from Minnesota, Connecticut, the Reading, Pa., school district, and the Ottawa, Ill., district, and posted online recently by the Center on Education Policy, a Washington-based think tank. The collection of estimates also includes a summary of the National Education Association鈥檚 lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education alleging that it has imposed unfunded mandates on states and school districts through the federal education law.
