Despite being one of the fastest-growing minorities in the United States, the needs of the Asian-American and Pacific Islander population have not figured high in the nation’s higher education agenda, says.

The report by the National Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Research in Education and the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund says that student population is diverse, with 16 ethnic subgroups, and varies widely in levels of postsecondary educational achievement.

For example, four out of five East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans) who enrolled in college earned at least a bachelor’s degree, compared with around one-third of Laotian and Hmong students.
