One of the last actions by Kentucky lawmakers before ending their 2005 session on March 8 was a compromise on new school nutrition and exercise standards to combat child obesity. The measure, in part, bans the sale of sugary soft drinks in elementary schools during school hours, lets schools sell commercial fast-food lunches just once a week, and raises standards for meal planning.
