Educators are deciding how best to re-establish routines such as everyday attendance, rebuild the relationships for resilient school communities, and center teaching and learning to consciously prioritize protecting the health and overall well-being of students and staff. They acknowledge that the necessity of learning recovery is both accelerated and equitable. And they agree that returning to the pre-pandemic status quo is not an option.
The Campaign for Grade Level Reading applauds the embrace of the 鈥渂uild back better鈥 imperative. Just as the pandemic 鈥渓aid bare鈥 longstanding inequities, adapting to the pandemic unveiled different ways of teaching and learning that could contribute to the better 鈥渘ew normal.鈥 This conversation will seek to illuminate how some of the decisions educators make could translate these bright spots, silver linings and potential keepers into pathways toward transformative change.
