Too often standards and curriculum dictate what students should learn in the classroom without allowing time (or opportunities) for them to pursue their academic interests. Add the pressure on students to attend college at all costs (literally and figuratively), and we find that learning remains dominated by the choices and decisions that adults make.

How do we find a happy medium where we maximize student learning and development with the kind of learning that educators know matters? Among the guests joining Peter DeWitt will be John Hattie, an award-winning education researcher and best-selling author with nearly 30 years of experience examining what works best in student learning and achievement.

John Hattie is an award-winning education researcher and best-selling author with nearly 30 years of experience examining what works best in student learning and achievement. His research, better known as Visible Learning, is a culmination of nearly 30 years synthesizing more than 1,500 meta-analyses comprising more than 90,000 studies involving over 300 million students around the world. He has presented and keynoted at over 350 international conferences and has received numerous recognitions for his contributions to education. His notable books include Visible Learning; Visible Learning for Teachers; Visible Learning and the Science of How We Learn; Visible Learning for Mathematics, Grades K-12; and, most recently, 10 Mindframes for Visible Learning.
Mandi Olson
Elementary Teacher and Instructional Coach, Alpine School District, Utah
Mandi Olson is dedicated to supporting educators as they develop their teaching expertise. During the past 15 years, she has worked as an elementary teacher and instructional coach in the Alpine School District located in Utah. As an educator, she works to utilize her knowledge of research to support others as they implement high-impact teaching and learning strategies in their instructional practice.

Limary Guttierrez is currently the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services for Soledad Unified School District in California. As a teacher, academic coach, and administrator, Gutierrez has worked with various leaders to provide teacher and administrator support in the areas of state and federal compliance, professional development, as well as curriculum and instruction. She holds a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from San Jose State University and is currently the Region 10 President for the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). As a leader who prides herself in being collaborative, she strives to highlight the importance of collaboration and emotional intelligence in a world filled with ongoing demands.
