Schools in large, urban districts are more likely to be identified as in need of improvement under the No Child Left Behind Act, compared with those in smaller districts, according to a three-year study sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and released last week.
The study, conducted by the Menlo Park, Calif.-based research institute SRI International’s Center for Education Policy, examined accountability requirements under the federal Title I program for the years 2001 through 2003.
