The Nashville Public Education Foundation has established a $1 million endowment at Vanderbilt University鈥檚 Peabody College to provide professional-development programs to teachers and principals in the metropolitan Nashville, Tenn., public schools.
The foundation鈥檚 gift will help establish a permanent relationship between the college and the 69,000-student district.
鈥淲e believe it鈥檚 important to look for improvements in the education process, and this partnership with Peabody and Vanderbilt will allow us to explore new options,鈥 Pedro E. Garcia, the district鈥檚 director of schools, said in a press release.
A nonprofit organization that is separate from the school district, the foundation has raised more than $4 million during the past 17 years to support instruction in the district.
