Accessing Federal Student Aid Options
Fill out the FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used by the university鈥檚 Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility for aid and to assist you in deciding what resources are best suited to your circumstances. Go to听to complete the FAFSA online. You are required to have an FSA ID to complete and submit a听FAFSA on the Web听application. It is also the听ONLY WAY听to access your data online.
Prior 鈥 Prior
What is it? Prior 鈥 Prior Year will allow students to submit their FAFSAs in October by accepting tax information on the year prior 鈥 prior to their enrollment. (e.g. Students enrolling in fall 2024-2025 will be allowed to submit 2022 tax information for federal student aid.)
Why is it happening? In the current college application cycle, students have to wait until January of their senior year to submit for federal student aid. (and really, who gets their taxes done in January? Making the submission time more like March or April). This deadline is poorly aligned with the college application calendar, creating obstacles for students trying to meet priority filing deadlines and resulting in less informed enrollment choices.
What does all of this mean?听You need to be aware of the new deadlines that will take place in response to the change. The deadline to complete the FAFSA will depend on the college(s) you鈥檙e considering attending, but whatever their deadline(s) may be, you can expect to get financial award letters sooner if you submit your FAFSA as early as you can after Oct.1. There will be an adjustment period for college admission departments as they determine new deadlines in response to PPY鈥攎eaning that deadlines for admission may not become clear until later in the summer.

This process can be completed using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) which helps tax filers estimate when they will be able to retrieve their IRS tax return information. The Financial Aid Office will review your file.
Verification
In the event that your 2024-2025 FAFSA application is selected for review in a process called 鈥淰erification鈥, the Financial Aid Office as well as Federal Student Aid will contact you. In this process, University of the 探花精选will be comparing information from your application with income information provided and the 2024-2025 verification forms. Federal regulations state that we have the right to ask you for this information before awarding Federal aid. If there are conflicts between your application information and your financial documents, you or your school may need to make corrections electronically or by using your Student Aid Report (SAR).
Additional Documents
The U.S. Department of Education performs comparisons on every financial aid application with several federal databases including the Social Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and Selective Service. Other checks and balances are performed by the Department of Education which may result in additional documents being required to process your Financial Aid.
Please respond immediately to any request so the processing of your financial aid application is not delayed.
