Southern Baptist representatives have approved a resolution that urges parents to monitor what church members believe are negative influences in their children鈥檚 education, such as instruction that homosexuality is morally acceptable.
The resolution won overwhelming approval June 22 at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, Tenn., according to John Revell, a spokesman for the convention. The meeting had about 11,000 attendees.
鈥淗omosexual activists and their allies are devoting substantial resources and using political power to promote the acceptance among schoolchildren of homosexuality as a morally legitimate lifestyle,鈥 the resolution says.
Mr. Revell said Southern Baptists believe 鈥渁 monogamous, heterosexual marriage is God鈥檚 design for the family.鈥 He said the resolution is telling parents to become aware of what鈥檚 being taught in their children鈥檚 schools and to address any teachings that are contrary to the Bible.
